He’s back in the spotlight! PNoy to attend EDSA 1 rally at People Power monument
Former President Benigno Aquino III will be attending the rally organized by various groups to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the People Power revolution this Saturday (February 25), Politiko has learned. But before heading to the rally site at the People Power monument, Aquino will first attend a mass at 1:30 p.m. at La Salle Greenhills. He and other individuals will start marching to the People Power monument at around 3 p.m. Interestingly, the former President skipped the commemoration event organized by the Duterte administration at Camp Aguinaldo on February 24 even though a seat was reserved for him. This year’s anniversary of the bloodless uprising will be one of the few times Aquino will be in the public eye after his term ended. The former President has maintained a relatively low profile since returning to his life as a private citizen. Aquino’s parents, the late President Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., are largely considered icons of Philippine democracy. Ninoy was assassinated upon his return to Manila in 1983 after living in exile in the United States. Corazon, meanwhile, was sworn in as president after the People Power revolution toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
