Stop the lies: Robredo urges Duterte to be a pro-law, pro-human rights leader

Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday (February 24) urged President Rodrigo Duterte to become the leader he promised he would be during the May 2016 polls by ensuring he upholds the law and human rights. In her speech at a forum on the relevance of the People Power Revolution at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Robredo said it is high time that Duterte focuses on the war on poverty. Addressing Duterte, the Vice President said: “Please use your leadership to point the nation towards respect for rule of law, instead of disregard for it; to uphold the basic human rights enshrined in the institution, instead of encouraging its abuse.” “Be the leader you promised to be, and stop the lies that are distorting the truth in our society today,” she said. Robredo said Filipinos must also do their share in opposing “brazen incursions” on their rights. “Never forget that liberty rightfully belongs to our nation and its people. Never forget that together, we can make a stand for every Filipino who suffers injustice, for those who have been betrayed and neglected, and for those who continue to aspire for progress in our country,” she said.
